FAQ New Roof or Roof Leak Repairs for Your Orange County Home

Quality and Dependability on Every Roofing Project since 1990

Finding a Professional Roofing Contractor in Orange County Can Be a Challenge

Protect Your Investment and Ask Plenty of Questions Before You Hire a Professional To Repair a Roof Leak or Install a New Roof on Your Home

We are often asked these questions or very similar ones by our clients and prospective clients.

Unfortunately, some roofing contractors will say just about anything to land a job, so the best defense is to ask plenty of questions and always get the answers in writing.

  • Here is one example: instead of simply asking if the contractor is licensed in California – ask for a copy of their California license or ask them to provide you with their license number and then verify it at the state website. You can visit the CSLB website to learn more.

We want every customer to become a customer for life. We want every customer to know that they have someone that they trust and respect and can turn to for all of their roof problems.

I’ve been a homeowner in the city of Orange for the past 26 years and have called on Galla-Rini Roofing for all of my roofing needs. The quality of their work has never been in question and Miles, the owner, is a man of integrity. He made sure I understood the problem, the procedures of the repair; the time it would take and the price involved up front. Even when it was raining and certainly, many roofs were in need of repair, Galla-Rini Roofing promptly responded to my needs and worked diligently until the job was done. Several days after the job, Galla-Rini Roofing followed up and made sure I was completely satisfied. I recommend Galla-Rini Roofing for all of your roofing needs.

FAQs

We offer a 10-Year warranty on labor/installation on all new complete re-roof projects.

  • Our warranty is double what most of our competitors offer and it is in writing.
  • The labor warranty on the installation of your new roof is your most important protection.
  • A faulty installation can lead to unexpected leaks and it will also void the manufacturer’s material warranty.
  • Other companies will charge extra for this protection or you have to call the manufacturer if you have a problem and that can be a huge hassle.

We only do roofing and that gives us a big advantage over remodeling companies and other home contractors that do roofing when they are slow or as a fill in job. We typically install more roofs for homeowners in a month then they install in a year.

The roofing industry in Orange County is competitive but price should not be the most important factor in your decision especially since your roof should provide you with a minimum of 10 years of worry free protection from the elements.

We have installed more than 1,000 shingle, tile, shake, wood, asphalt, clay tile, concrete tile and hot mop roofs. We repair roof leaks and other roof repairs and typically repair three roofs for every new roof we install in Orange County and the surrounding communities.

We provide roofing services for homeowners and buildings in Southern California including: Orange, Irvine, Newport Beach, Laguna Beach, Anaheim, Tustin, Villa Park, Mission Viejo, Lake Forest, Anaheim Hills, Foothill Ranch, Costa Mesa, Laguna Hills, Aliso Viejo, Huntington Beach and many nearby communities.

We do not provide estimates over the phone.

  • We will meet with you so we can ask specific questions to make sure we understand your roofing needs. We then climb up on every roof and conduct a physical examination of your roof. At that point we will prepare a written proposal for your review.
  • If your roof has a leak and needs a repair or if you need a new wood shake, wood shingle, asphalt shingle, clay tile, concrete tile or hot mop roof it is possible for your new roof to be installed properly without surprise charges, hassles or poor quality that are all too common in the roofing industry.
  • Roofing contractors that will provide you with an estimate over the phone without making a physical examination of your roof should be avoided. This is unprofessional and in the industry it is referred to as a “guestimate”.
  • Unless a roofing contractor makes a physical examination of your roof, they will only be guessing and that can lead to nasty surprise price increases once your roof is torn off or once they start the “repair” that suddenly turns into a new roof.

One more important point – an estimate written on the back of a business card is worthless because all you will know is the price. That is like buying a car without knowing what equipment and options are included.

  • Every roofing contractor can come up with 3 good references.
  • It is a lot smarter to ask for at least 10 references.
  • Even contractors that do roofing as a sideline will complete 20 projects every few years so asking for 10 references isn’t a big deal.

Galla-Rini Roofing will provide you a list of 20 recent customer references that you can call.

Our license number is #663983 – classification C-39 roofing.

The California State Licensing Board (CSLB) has established licensing laws and rules that all roofing contractors must follow to legally perform installation of a new roof or roof repairs in excess of $500.

The standards and safeguards have been established to help homeowners avoid hiring disreputable or unqualified contractors and to offer protection against sloppy or subpar construction.

  • Ask every roofing contractor for a copy of their California license or ask them to provide you with their license number and then verify it at the state website. You can visit the CSLB website to learn more.

If a contractor does not have an active license with the CSLB, it is a smart idea to cross them off of your list.

This is an extremely important question to ask a roofing contractor because liability insurance is not required in California.

The California Contractors State Licensing Board does recommend that you hire a company that has liability insurance to protect your property in case of an accident.

  • Commercial general liability insurance is not required to be licensed in California. If a roofing contractor does not carry general liability insurance, you should ask them how they would cover any losses normally covered by insurance. If a contractor damages your property and they do not have general liability insurance, you or your insurance may end up paying for the repairs or you will have to take legal action against the contractor to obtain reimbursement.
  • Worker’s compensation insurance is required in California for all employees. This is very important. If a worker is injured while working on your property and the contractors doesn’t have the proper insurance, you can be held liable for the cost of the injuries and rehabilitation. Your homeowner’s insurance may or may not cover the costs.

The point of this information is not to scare you. It is provided so that you won’t make the mistake of hiring a contractor that is not properly insured.

The best approach is to get the Certificate of Insurance directly from the contractor’s insurance agent. This will provide you with assurance that the coverage is in place.

We carry $2 Million of Liability and Workers’ Compensation insurance and we will provide the contact information for my insurance agent so you can verify my coverage for the company.

This is an area that some companies “take a chance” and hope no one gets hurt.

  • Roofing is an expensive classification for worker’s compensation insurance. By classifying workers under other categories like remodeling, a company can get much lower premiums.
  • Many roofing contractors don’t classify their crew members properly so if they get hurt on your job, your homeowner’s insurance will be responsible or at the very least you will have a messy claim to deal with.
  • Galla-Rini Roofing Inc. specifically lists roofing as the primary business on our workers compensation policy.

If a contractor is unable to produce the proper insurance coverage, do not hire them because you may be responsible for any injuries or accidents that occur.

Note: Workers Compensation insurance only covers employees. If the contractor utilizes sub-contractors – they must have their own Workers Compensation insurance in force otherwise the homeowner can be held responsible if there is an accident.

Yes and here are the reasons why we do it:

We climb up on every roof to ensure we give you a proposal you can rely on.

  • Many roofing contractors skip this step and will do a quick drive by or will rely on roofing software to provide you with an estimate. They do this because it saves them time and they know that most homeowners won’t climb up on the roof to check out their recommendations.
  • Unless a roofing contractor makes a physical examination of your roof, they will only be guessing and that can lead to nasty surprise price increases once your roof is torn off or once they start the “repair” that suddenly turns into a new roof.
  • This approach to estimating is the major cause of “change orders” that increase the quoted price and leave the homeowner feeling ripped off.

We have installed more than 1,000 shingle, tile, shake, wood, asphalt, clay tile, concrete tile and hot mop roofs. We repair roof leaks and other roof repairs and typically repair 3 roofs for every new roof we install in Orange County and the surrounding communities.

Yes. A written price and satisfaction guarantee is your only protection against faulty workmanship, substitute products and hidden charges.

If your roof has a leak and needs a repair or if you need a new wood shake, wood shingle, asphalt shingle, clay tile, concrete tile or hot mop roof it is possible for your new roof to be installed properly without surprise charges, hassles or poor quality that are all too common in the roofing industry.

Our proposals:

  • Specify the materials to be used, the specific steps to be performed and a price that is guaranteed for the estimate submitted.
  • We also include our process for change orders for additional work or for changes to the original requirements.

We make every effort to examine your roof thoroughly but occasionally we will find rotted plywood at the edges due to a prior defective job. When this happens we will need to adjust our price to include replacement of additional plywood. We will keep the sheets we removed for your inspection.

Note: We don’t make a profit when we do have to install extra plywood due to the extra time it takes to get it and install it. As a responsible roofing contractor, we have to replace it.

When some contractors run into credit or quality issues, they simply close up the business and open up under a similar name.

We recommend that you request the following information from each company that you seriously consider hiring (for any contracting services):
